Coffee is what gets us going in the morning and helps
us stay alert as we accomplish all the day's tasks from work assignments
to household chores. But if you consider your coffee maker your resident
cheerleader, it might be easy to forget that there are begrudged chores
that go with maintaining even it.
In fact, coffee makers are one of
the most difficult items in your kitchen to clean. Well, it may not
be so much that they're a special challenge. What's more likely is
that people neglect cleaning their coffee maker to a point where
it eventually does become quite a bothersome task.
Cleaning your coffee maker is necessary to keep your machine producing
great tasting coffee. Although cleaning a coffee maker is usually
an easy task, deep cleaning it once in a while is very important
as well
and can have some tricks. Cleaning a coffee maker thoroughly can
make a great difference on the quality of the coffee you have since
it would
not be affected by impurities such as old oils and hard water deposits.
It is important to have in mind that it is recommendable to do a
deep cleaning to the coffee machine on a monthly basis.
A clean coffee maker really makes a big difference in how your coffee
tastes. Left over coffee oils can accumulate inside your coffee
maker and become rancid. And mineral deposits can form too, especially
in areas with hard water. These deposits are called “scale”.
There are two kinds of scale, lime scale and mineral scale and you
don’t want either one. Scale can affect the heating unit and
the water flow of your coffee maker and reduce its efficiency. How
quickly scale forms depend on the quality of your drinking water. If
you use bottled water to make your coffee, scale probably won’t
form as fast but you still have to worry about accumulated coffee oils.
Better to play it safe and clean your coffee maker regularly.
Cleaning your coffee maker is necessary to keep your machine producing
great tasting coffee. Each machine type will require a different
cleaning method. A drip coffee maker needs frequent cleaning.
If you don't,
the coffee it produces can deteriorate in flavor and content.
A good cleaning routine will remove deposits, debris and build
up
of unwanted
materials as well as removing lime scale and other impurities.
One of the best and easiest ways to clean a coffee maker thoroughly
is with a mixture of vinegar and water. Cleaning a drip coffee
maker with two parts of water and one part of vinegar would
allow you to
get rid of all impurities the device might have accumulated
when it was used many times. The mixture will clean the system
especially
when
it is heated by the machine. Let your machine cool and begin
to rinse thoroughly. You may need to repeat this process either
using
the
water and vinegar mixture again or re-rinsing your machine.
Take your time
to do it properly.
