Roasting Coffee Beans Is Very Difficult

It is the use of fresh ingredients that make a cup of fresh and steaming coffee. Fresh, un-roasted beans give the coffee a wonderful aroma. Roast and grind the fresh beans as and when required, right before putting them straight into either your coffee or home coffee maker.

Without ‘specialist’ equipment, roasting beans is a very difficult task. The cost of the equipment is fairly high too. However, by not investing in this, you can well miss out on a delightful cup of coffee. Roasting the beans without the equipment may lead to a strong, irritating smell, spreading throughout the house.

Once the beans are properly roasted, they stay fresh for some days. In fact, freshly roasted beans release carbon dioxide, keeping away oxygen responsible for their decay. Stored in an airtight container, the roasted beans can keep for nearly a week before starting to lose flavor.

For best results, grind the beans quickly after roasting, so as to retain their maximum flavor. Though the aroma goes out of the roasted beans in a few weeks, the taste could still be good enough. It is after a month or so that roasted coffee becomes bland.

Make sure that when you buy roasted beans, their skins are intact. That’s the secret to a nice cup of coffee from roasted beans! If the skins are broken, oil can harm the wonderful aroma of the coffee.

Purchase containers for storing coffee, as the inert gases in them prevent oxygen from spoiling the beans. Airtight jars can keep the beans for a number of weeks. If you don’t want to roast the beans, you might as well grind them instead.

Grinders are actually quite cheap these days, with even good quality ones fairly within the reach of many. The automated processes of grinders make them easy to use too.

Remember that coffee grounds decay within a couple of days, as you cut the beans through their skin. Preferably you should use these grounds in a day or so; or else keep them in a canister with a drying agent that will keep the moisture out.

In case the grounds are not stored properly, they quickly lose their flavor. The air causes the oil to evaporate, taking away the flavor from the beans. For a good cup of coffee, grind only the amount required and brew it within an hour; otherwise you yourself ar eto be blamed for undue wastage.
